Why Surf ID?

Why I started Surf ID.

When I was 16, I was surfing and got hit by a longboarder. I was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital.

I didn't have any identification on me, so I was admitted as John Doe. Eventually, my friends identified me and called my parents. Until that phone call, my parents had absolutely no idea what had happened, where I was, or that I was even in the hospital.

That experience has stuck with me.

When you go surfing, you're basically naked in your wetsuit.

No wallet. No phone. No ID.

And when you send your kids, your husband, your wife, or anyone you love into the ocean, you're sending them out there the same way. If something happens, how is anyone supposed to know who they are?

That's why I created Surf ID.

It's just a little tag that attaches to your wetsuit. Someone scans it, and they can see your name, who to contact, and whatever medical information you choose to share. No batteries. No app needed to scan. No complicated technology. Just something simple that's there if you ever need it.

My hope is that getting a Surf ID becomes as normal as buying a wetsuit. You get a new suit, grab a tag, and head into the water with a little more peace of mind.

A little tag. A lot of peace of mind.
